Your hosts are Amy, Emily, and Vu. Meet Emily, the girl who fell in love with The Replacements and moved to Minneapolis in stalking pursuit of Paul Westerberg. Her first show at "the legendary" First Avenue, it was an all-ages show for Built to Spill, while her first cassette purchased was for Dionne Warwick and The Four Tops. Who doesn't love oldies and Motown? The main focus of the show is Mark Lanegan and his latest album, Blues Funeral, which came out February 2012, via 4AD. This is the first Mark Lanegan Band album since 2004's Bubblegum. You might know Lanegan as the lead singer of the 90s band Screaming Trees, but he's become known more and more as successful solo artist. His collaboration list is also quite diverse, being in Queens of the Stone Age, The Gutter Twins (with Greg Dulli), and Isobel Campbell (of Belle & Sebastian). WHM133: So Whatcha Want? I Wanna Rock!

Your hosts are Amy, Emily, and Vu. While I dominated this show (because of Twisted Sister), Emily and Amy will talk more in next week's show. Normally these podcasts don't appear back-to-back, but because of the untimely death of MCA (Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys), I felt that I had to push this as a breaking news podcast. I had just heard the news as I was bringing up the recording equipment for the podcast, so none of us were really prepared to talk about Beastie Boys and their massive influence. As you recall, Adam had to cancel all the Beastie Boys tour, due to a cancerous tumor in his left parotid gland (that was in 2009). The last BB news we reported was that they released Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (part one was never released!). The majority of this show is about Twisted Sister, thanks to the gold mine that is Dee Snider's biography "Shut Up and Give Me the Mic". The book comes out May 8th via Gallery Books/Simon & Schuster Publishing. If you can't bother to read the review, you can give us a listen. Amy recalls her first and only hand-written fan letter to Twisted Sister. Her reward was a glossy 8x11 photograph of the band. I know the timeline is a little off, but for the most part, the UK broke Twisted Sister and they got a record deal with Atlantic Records. We briefly touch on their rise and eventual fall (no thanks to Tipper Gore). We also talk about his relationship with his wife, Suzette. They met when she was 15 and he was 21! We played a clip of Dee Snider's Dee Does Broadway album, coming out May 8th, as a nice companion to his book. Song of the show is the classic Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" from their triple platinum 1984 album, Stay Hungry. PS, according to twistedsister.com, this will be the "best Twisted summer ever", they'll be on tour in Europe and the USA. If I get a tour announcement, I'll let you know.

Shoegeezers Vu and Amy sit down to talk about Shoegazing/Shoegaze music. Although "shoegazing" emerged from the UK in the late 80s, it wasn't until the early 90s, that the name really kicked into popularity because the UK music press (NME and Melody Maker) were using it to describe the bands and the audience for their tendencies to look at their feet at gigs. This subgenre of alternative rock had some key elements: (1) Lots and lots of guitar effects and layers and (2) Indistinguishable vocal melodies that blend in the guitar noise Bands on our list: Slowdive (later Mojave 3) Chapterhouse My Bloody Valentine Moose Catherine Wheel Fleeting Joy Belong DIIV (recently changed their name from Dive) Twilight Sad Ringo Deathstarr Young Prisms The Depreciation Guild Song of the show is Catherine Wheel's "Black Metallic" Just in time for the Kevin Shield's remastering of his My Bloody Valentine re-issues: Glider (Mar 27th), Ep's 1988 - 1991 (May 15th), Loveless (Jun 5th), and Isn't Anything (Jun 5th). BONUS: Looper, not to be confused with the new Sci-Fi movie, but is the Scottish band that lived off "Mondo 77" for five years (thank you Tom Cruise), plus Dreampop and M83.

Welcome Amy to the W♥M family. We talked about these things: Record Store Day 2012! Mostly only vinyl releases for RSD, happening today (Saturday, April 21st). Some regional releases like UK's Club AC30's Taffy, The Megaphonic Thrift, and Daniel Land & The Modern Painters. Spectrals at First Avenue. Their bassist is awesome. When Amy met Vu (at Elastica's concert at First Ave on 09/26/00). Peaches & Gonzales forever! Amy's band wishlist: Jesus and Mary Chain, Vu's wishlist: Pulp (again). Song of the show is Beach House's "Lazuli", from their upcoming album, Bloom, via Sub Pop Records. Amy, hands down, is calling Bloom the album of 2012. THE HUNGER GAMES - Book vs movie. Jennifer Lawrence is a perfect Katniss Everdeen.

THE ARTIST - The silent, black & white picture. The film won Lara's heart.

Song of the show is Ludovic Bource's "Waltz for Peppy", from The Artist soundtrack.

WHM124: What'll It Take?

This is part two of Sally's appearance on W♥M Radio. The show was recorded February 10th, 2012.

Sally saw Hall & Oates and Icehouse. We learn the sleazy origin of "Electric Boobs".

Since this recording, Graham Coxon already put together his video for "What'll It Take". See video madness below. It took 85 fans from 22 different countries and was pieced together by director Ninian Doff. Look for the new Graham Coxon album, A+E, which I think is out now.

Second part of the show is about Asteroid Galaxy Tour in Minneapolis. Most of the audience at the sold-out show was underage.

Finally the show ends with a comment about Viet Khang, this was recorded before my article. As far as I know, Viet Khang is still in jail.

This is the last of the Trilogy of Lara's W♥M Radio appearance. Listen to Part One and Two.

Since most of the topics about music were pretty much used in parts one and two, this last show is a bit of a potpourri, with loads of random things that didn't fit anywhere. These little segments would work great in a 'best of' or bloopers show, but as it is... a bit of a jazz-theme.

I was originally going to include a review of Mitch Ryder's Devils & Blue Dresses: My Wild Ride as a Rock and Roll Legend book along with the podcast, but seeing as the book was just released last Tuesday (according to amazon.com) and my lack of time on my schedule this week, I've decided to just push this on the front page. I will put up a review for the book later. The audio recording is a first impression and thoughts on the book.
